Quivira Vineyards & Winery
Quivira Vineyards & Winery is a small, artisan producer located in the scenic Dry Creek Valley. Known for their crisp Sauvignon Blanc, juicy Zinfandel and eclectic red blends, most of the wine at Quivira comes from their Wine Creek Ranch estate. Quivira has a lovely picnic area, and a recently remodeled and expanded tasting room with food products available for sampling and other Wine Country gifts. Quivira Vineyards & Winery was started in 1987 by the Wendts, a couple with a strong commitment to sustainable farming. Quivira changed hands in 2006, but the transition seems to have been a smooth one with a new owners Pete & Terri Kight, similarly committed to sustainable farming.
Notables: Quivira brought on board a new winemaker, Steven Canter, in 2006 and it seems that the best is yet to come in 2008 with Canter's first wines (although he did most of the blending on Quivira's 2005 vintage). Quivira's estate Sauvignon Blanc, Fig Tree Vineyard, is always highly rated and award-winning, and the reds promise to be great under Canter's minimalist approach (wild-yeast fermentation, light on the oak).
