J Rickards Winery is the quintessential tiny, family-run winery, Jim and Eliza Rickards purchased 60 acres back in 1976, and still live right on-site next door to the winery. Visitors can stroll among the original 1908 vines, visit their 50+ bird houses, or take in the beautiful flower gardens Eliza’s nurtured for decades. The majority of their prized grapes go to their next-door neighbor Silver Oak, to Geyser Peak just up the road, and to Dry Creek Vineyards over the hill.Winemaker Alex Holman trained with the esteemed Paul Hobbs at Hobbs’ winery, then on to Dry Creek Vineyards before coming on board at J. Rickards. All the fruit for the JR wines are hand-harvested and hand-sorted.
