Chateau St Jean Winery and Vineyards - Pictures
Chateau St. Jean
Chateau St. Jean is a large-scale producer of many widely distributed wines, but at their Sonoma Valley winery you'll also find many of Chateau St. Jean's single vineyard and appellation specific wines. Chateau St. Jean is noted for its consistent quality, which hasn't changed even since it went corporate (Foster's). Chateau St. Jean's historic 1920 chateau is one of Wine Country's more magnificent architectural examples and is listed in the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The chateau was a summer home first for some Michiganders, then became a winery in 1973.
Splurge on Chateau St. Jean's reserve tasting, which showcases wines that are terrific but generally out of a mortal's price range ($75 a bottle range), including their stellar Bordeaux blend, Cinq Cepages. In just the last ten years, Cinq Cepages has been named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year and #2 Wine of the Year.
The Chateau St. Jean courtyard gardens are worth the stop, and there's also a demonstration vineyard. Chatuea St. Jean has a deli featuring gourmet sandwiches and also wine by the glass. Picnic area. Tours 11am and 1pm daily.
