Anaba Wines
Anaba Wines, which early in 2009 released its sustainably farmed and artisanally crafted Rhône and Burgundian-style wines, has opened its new tasting room at the gateway to Sonoma Carneros. Discerning wine drinkers searching for an intimate and family-run winery are welcomed to a recently renovated 100-year-old farmhouse with a lovely patio looking over the vineyards where visitors can experience the anabatic breeze while tasting the award-winning Anaba wines.
On summer days, as the sun warms the hills and valleys of Sonoma, unique air currents bring cooling breezes inland from the Pacific Ocean and San Pablo Bay. Wafting softly, with the occasional gusts, these breezes flow through the vineyard rows. As they encounter steeper slopes and drift upward, they become anabatic winds. The name Anaba refers to these upward-flowing winds which have a cooling effect that slows ripening and allows the grapes to develop their unique characteristics.
Anaba’s exclusive wines are handcrafted from the best Rhône and Burgundian grape varieties from outstanding vineyards throughout Sonoma County, including their Carneros Estate vineyard. Producing only 4,500 cases a year, Anaba strives to create limited edition, superior quality blends and single varietal wines. Their white and red Rhône-style “Coriols” are artistic creations, blended from grapes grown in Sonoma’s rocky soils reminiscent of the rugged earthiness of France's RhôneValley. Their Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs reflect the elegance and grace of the gently sloping vineyards found in Burgundy, crafted from similarly distinct sites in Sonoma.
