the girl & the fig, located next to the Sonoma Plaza, is one of Sonoma's most popular restaurants. It's easy to understand why this big sister to Glen Ellen's fig cafe would be packed all the time: the restaurant features "country food with a French passion." The seasonal menu features a full range of fare from soups and salads, appetizers and cheese selections (the Fromage Tower is a great way to start a meal for a group), and entrees ranging from cassoulet (which I can never resist) to steak frites. The girl & the fig has one of Wine Country's most unique wine lists: the "Rhone Alone" list features only Rhone varietals from both California and France (with a slight stray to include sparkling wine and Champagne). the girl & the fig does take reservations, but if you have to wait for a table find a spot at the antique bar. In nice weather take advantage of the outdoor patio dining.
