Flamingo Resort Hotel & Spa
The Flamingo Resort Hotel & Spa in Santa Rosa is a historic landmark built in the 1950s. The Flamingo Hotel has historic charm with modern conveniences, country furniture and a friendly atmosphere, and is welcoming to families while offering a top-notch business center and conference facilities. As a destination resort guests can enjoy the heated pool; tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts; shuffleboard and table tennis. A lighted jogging path winds through the gardens, and is a great place for a morning or evening walk or run. A modest fee will admit guests to the adjacent Montecito Heights Health & Racquet Club & Spa. Snacks, beverages, and light fare are sold outside, in the pool and hot tub area, while those who want a view rather than a dip may enjoy a meal in the Terrace Grill overlooking the pool. The separate lounge at the Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa offers music, and the location offers wineries, shopping, the beach, woods and more all within about 30 minutes. The Flamingo Resot Hotel has some movie history, as it was known in Hollywood in the 1950s as the place to stay north of San Francisco, hosting such legends as Jayne Mansfield. The pink flamingo atop the tower heralds the show business aspect of this hotel, which mirrors the original Las Vegas Flamingo. Members of the movie industry often choose the Flamingo as their home base when filming in Sonoma County. Portions of the 2005 movie, Bandits, were filmed here.
Inexpensive to Very Expensive: depending on season, room rates are $80.00 - $399.00.
WHY I’D STAY HERE: It’s half a block from Hank’s Creekside, my favorite spot for breakfast; it’s bright and airy; the pool and gardens offer a pleasant outdoor area [with both sun and shade]; there is an on-site restaurant, and a lounge with music and dancing on selected nights; it is centrally located. Is this a destination hotel? Yes, a good site for a vacation for a couple or a family, with a pool and some stores nearby. It is a short driving distance to Spring Lake Park with a playground, train rides, a lake with rental boats, beautiful walking paths and more. I’ve spend many a pleasant afternoon sitting around the pool with my sisters and their families, when they stayed here while visiting Santa Rosa.
DRAWBACKS: A couple of miles to downtown shops and restaurants, though only a couple of blocks to Montgomery Village Shopping Center with many restaurants and boutique shops.
